Africa has been at the back of the queue for medical product supplies. Even today, 70% of Africa’s medicines are imported, however, there are multiple manufacturers of pharmaceutical products across East, West and Southern Africa. Africa’s pharmaceutical market is expected to grow as life expectancy increases and more people have disposable income to pay for treatment as well as prevention.
Africa needs a vibrant and self-sustaining local pharmaceutical manufacturing industry to reduce the burden of disease and promote economic development by providing quality and affordable locally-made medicines.
